PAKISTAN: Christian Parents Worried About Missing Daughter

Sep 7, 2022 | VoM

Christian parents Anwar Masih and his wife Shaheen are worried because the police still have not found their young daughter, who disappeared more than three weeks ago.

The couple, who are from Faisalabad, have five children; two sons who are married and living with them, and three daughters. Two of their daughters are also married and living out of home, while Muqadas, the youngest child in the family, lives at home.

Anwar and Shaheen live in a Christian village composed of 300 houses. Their daughter Muqadas is a university student and works part time with her mother to pay for university. She is also engaged to Sahiraas Khurram, and they are due to marry after she completes her degree.

Shaheen told contacts at Centre for Legal Aid Assistance & Settlement (CLAAS), “I have been sick for some time, and on the day she was abducted, I asked Muqadas to bring my medical report from the doctor. According to the doctor, she collected the medical report. She even told us that she was coming home, but she never arrived.

“When she didn’t arrive home by 10pm I got a bit worried and tried to call her, but her phone was switched off. I got concerned and told my sons. They went to look for her everywhere, wherever she could possibly be, but she was nowhere to be found.

“We kept searching for her for two days, and then at last, we complained to the police and registered a first information report (FIR) at the Thikriwala Police Station in Faisalabad.”

Police searched for Mugadas but couldn’t find her. During their investigation, they arrested two suspects from her computer class, but they both denied their involvement.

Ilyas Masih, Muqadas’ brother, told CLAAS, “We also went to Dr Rizwan’s clinic where she went to collect our mother’s reports. According to him, she collected the reports and left the clinic. I am concerned about her.”

Police officer Naeem said that although they had arrested two suspects, they are denying having any information about Muqadas. The search for her continues.
